10. Louis Vuitton
The name of this brand, which started in 1854 in the romantic streets of Paris, evokes splendor and luxury in front of the eyes. But now, behind this luxury comes environmental responsibility. Under the guidance of their Chief Sustainability Officer Christelle Capdupuy, this old French brand is now taking steps towards an eco-friendly future. When you buy something like this, it feels like you are not just preserving fashion, but also preserving a legacy of nature.
9. Lululemon
If you are passionate about yoga and fitness, you must have heard of Lululemon. Born in Vancouver, Canada in 1998, this brand is working to keep us physically fit as well as the planet healthy. Noel Kinder, who is the Senior Vice President of Sustainability here, makes sure that our workout clothes do not harm the environment.
8. Nike
We have been hearing the slogan “Just Do It” since childhood. But this brand, founded in Oregon, USA in 1964, is now focusing on “Just Save It” i.e. saving the planet. Led by an enthusiastic Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer like Venkatesh Alagirisamy, Nike is doing a wonderful job of reducing waste by making new shoes from old plastic and rubber. I personally find great peace in seeing such big brands working in this direction.
7. Chloé
Let’s turn to Paris, France once again. The Chloé brand, launched in 1952, is a symbol of women’s beauty and tenderness. Christophe Bocquet is their Sustainability and Responsible Sourcing Director. When a brand ensures that no one is exploited and the environment is protected in the making of their clothes, the joy of wearing those clothes doubles.
6. H&M
We must have all shopped at an H&M store at some point. This brand, which started in Stockholm, Sweden in 1947, was known for fast fashion, but now under the leadership of Chief Sustainability Officer Leyla Ertur, they are changing their old ways. When we return old clothes to the store and they are made into new fabrics, it really feels like we are respecting the endless cycle of nature.
5. Adidas
Started in Germany in 1949, Adidas is a big name in the world of sports today. Sigrid Buehrle works here as SVP Sustainability & ESG. I still remember the first time I read that Adidas was making shoes from plastic waste from the ocean! My eyes lit up. What better way to save our oceans and marine life than this? When I go shopping with my family or friends, I always discuss these top 10 sustainable fashion brands.
4. Levi’s
I still have a pair of Levi’s jeans in my closet that I have been loving for years. This very old company, which started in California in 1853, has survived because they have changed with the times. Jeans use a lot of water, but thanks to the efforts of Jeffrey Hogue, Chief Sustainability Officer, Levi’s is now using water-saving technology. Knowing this, I’m starting to love my old jeans even more.
3. Puma
This brand, born in Germany in 1948, is really making a leap towards eco-friendly fashion, like its icon – the leaping cheetah. Veronique Rochet, Senior Director of Sustainability, ensures that the brand reduces its carbon emissions. It is proud to know that our favorite sportswear is now leaning towards green.
2. Gucci
Who does not know the Gucci brand, born in 1921 in the city of Florence, Italy? But did you know that this king of the fashion world is now also becoming a protector of the environment? Marie-Claire Daveu, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Caring Group, has shown Gucci a new direction. Providing luxury without harming the environment is nothing short of magic.
1. Stella McCartney
Founded in London in 2001, this brand is truly an inspiration to me and millions of others. Together with Chief Sustainability and Operating Officer Pasquale Coppolella, Stella McCartney has never used leather or fur since its inception. Her compassion for mute animals touches the heart. When kindness and love are combined in fashion, it becomes truly beautiful.
Conclusion
While reading this list and information, I felt a flood of emotions. Our clothes are not just a means of covering our bodies; they are a mirror of our ideology. Today we saw how the world’s top 10 sustainable fashion brands are changing their core principles to protect the environment. If such big and massive companies can change their ways, can’t we make some changes in our small shopping decisions? The Earth will not be saved by aliens from another planet; it is the responsibility of me, you and all of us to save it. Whenever you go to buy something new, stop for a moment and think – is this thing causing any harm to my beautiful Earth?
