Iran vs Israel Military Strength 2026: Numbers, Tech & Strategic Power

Military strength of Iran and Israel

Usually, my morning starts with a hot cup of tea and a newspaper or news app. Everyday, there is something in the news that makes us realize the turmoil going on in the world. Today was the same. Amidst the tension and news of war going on around the world, my eyes fell on a particular report. This report was about the military strength of Iran and Israel. We all know that the situation in the Middle East has always been delicate, but when you talk about these two powerful countries face to face, a strange kind of fear, curiosity and anxiety arises in the mind. I am not a defense expert, nor am I a politician who makes war policies. I am just an ordinary person who wants peace in the world and wants to live in a safe world with my family. But in today’s world, just closing your eyes does not change the reality of the world.

When I saw the figures in this report, I realized that there is a huge difference between just listening to the news and actually understanding where a country stands militarily. I felt that I should share this information with you in very simple language. This is not just a calculation of weapons or machines, but the gap between the ideologies of two different countries, their geographical conditions and the security of their citizens. Whenever we think about the military strength of Iran and Israel, the whole world takes a breath for a while because this is not just a matter of two countries, it can affect the economy and peace of the whole world. So, let’s do a simple analysis of the information I have read and understand what the figures say.

The truth behind the figures: Comparison of Iran and Israel’s military strength

The greatest strength of any army is not its weapons, but the soldiers who wield those weapons. Human resources, i.e., people, are the foundation of any security shield. Iran is a geographically vast and populous country, which directly affects the size of its army. When I read that Iran has 610,000 active soldiers, I was left thinking for a while. This figure is really huge. When you see more than six lakh youth deployed on the border or in the security of the country day and night, then their seriousness and readiness towards the security of the country is understood. On the other hand, Israel is a much smaller country than Iran in terms of both area and population. They have 169,500 active soldiers.

But Israel’s real strength lies in its reserves. Military training is mandatory for most young men in Israel. Because of this rule, they have about 465,000 reserve soldiers who can immediately go to the battlefield if any trouble befalls the country. In comparison, Iran has 350,000 reserve soldiers. Let’s take a look at these manpower figures.

  • Iran’s active troops: 610,000
  • Iran’s reserve troops: 350,000
  • Israel’s active troops: 169,500
  • Israel’s reserve troops: 465,000

Looking at these figures, one thing becomes quite clear that Iran has a very large standing army, but Israel has made its small population its biggest shield. Almost every ordinary citizen of their country can become a warrior if needed. I think this kind of nationalism is truly amazing.

Who is stronger on the ground?

Now let’s talk about the war being fought on the ground. We have often seen in movies or old war scenes how terrifying and decisive the role of tanks and artillery is in a land war. According to Global Firepower data, Iran has 2,675 tanks, while Israel has 1,300 tanks. However, in today’s modern times, numbers alone are not enough, what matters more is how modern and technologically equipped your tank is. In terms of armored vehicles carrying troops, Iran has 75,939 vehicles, while Israel has 62,380.

  • Iranian tanks: 2,675
  • Israeli tanks: 1,300
  • Iranian armored vehicles (AFVs): 75,939
  • Israeli armored vehicles (AFVs): 62,380
  • Iranian self-propelled artillery: 424
  • Israeli self-propelled artillery: 323
  • Iranian towed artillery: 1,803
  • Israeli towed artillery: 171
  • Iranian mobile rocket projectors (MLRS): 1,550
  • Israeli Mobile Rocket Projectors (MLRS): 228

When I compared the number of these artillery and mobile rocket projectors, I realized how much Iran has been preparing for ground attacks for a long time. Having more than 1,500 rocket projectors shows how devastating a direct war on the ground between these two countries could be. My mind often thinks that if the billions of rupees spent on making such large-scale weapons were used for the development of the world, how peacefully we could live! But perhaps this is the bitter reality of today.

Modernity and the military strength of Iran and Israel: Air Force

When it comes to the air force, the picture of the whole situation changes a little. I have always heard that Israel’s air power and their technology are considered the best in the world. When I compared the military strength of Iran and Israel,When I saw these figures from the IAF, I found this to be true. Attacks from the air are the fastest, and technology plays the biggest role in them.

Talking about fighter aircraft, Iran has 188 aircraft, while Israel has 239. Israel is also ahead in attack aircraft, which are specially designed to attack only specific targets, with 45, while Iran has 21 such aircraft. Let’s look at some key figures from the air force.

  • Fighter aircraft: Iran (188) vs. Israel (239)
  • Dedicated attack aircraft: Iran (21) vs. Israel (45)
  • Transport aircraft: Iran (86) vs. Israel (14)
  • Trainer aircraft: Iran (103) vs. Israel (148)
  • Special mission aircraft: Iran (10) vs. Israel (19)
  • Aerial tankers: Iran (6) vs. Israel (13)
  • Helicopters (total): Iran (129) vs. Israel (127)
  • Attack helicopters: Iran (13) vs. Israel (48)

Looking at this information, we understand how much emphasis Israel has placed on its air defense. Especially the number of attack helicopters shows how quickly they can be ready to respond to a sudden attack. On the other hand, Iran has more transport aircraft. Since Iran is a geographically large country, it needs more such aircraft to transport its troops and goods. Since the borders of the two countries do not meet directly, the air attack capability proves to be the most decisive weapon in their fight.

Sea power and navy

After land and air, let’s talk about sea power. Iran’s geographical position is such that it has got a long coastline, which is why its naval strength has also been developed accordingly. Iran has 25 submarines, which is really a big number. While Israel has 6 submarines.

  • Submarines: Iran has 25, while Israel has 6.
  • Frigets: Iran has 7.
  • Corvettes: Iran has 3, Israel has 7.
  • Patrol Vessels: Iran has 21, Israel has 66.
  • Mine Warfare: Iran has 1.

It is clear here that Israel has paid more attention to small and fast ships patrolling its coastline to protect it. On the other hand, Iran has strengthened its hold in the depths of the sea through its submarines. I wonder how difficult and challenging the life of those sailors must be, staying inside the submarine for weeks, deep in the water, protecting the country.

Final Thoughts: Humanity Beyond Numbers

After reading and analyzing all this detailed information about the military strength of Iran and Israel, many thoughts are running through my mind as a citizen. We see such military statistics every morning on paper or on the screen of our mobile phones. But in reality, each of these figures represents living beings, sophisticated deadly technology and a country’s budget of billions of rupees. Some countries have a large army to protect themselves on the ground, while others have the ability to rule the skies.

I understand that national security is paramount for every country. But when I take a last look at all this information, a deep hope is definitely born that all these weapons and military strength will remain just numbers. They will never have to be used. History is a witness that no matter which country wins a war, humanity always loses in the end. Like me, you too might be thinking after reading today’s figures on the military strength of Iran and Israel that maintaining peace in the world and resolving issues through dialogue is our greatest strength.
