What Are YouTube Tags?
YouTube tags are metadata that tell YouTube what a video or channel is about. They’re different from hashtags—you don’t see them publicly, but YouTube uses them internally. Some important things I keep in mind:- Each tag can be up to 30 characters
- Total tag limit is 400 characters
- Best tags are 2–3 word phrases
- Tags should match the video topic clearly
How Many Tags Should I Use?
From my experience:- 5–8 tags are more than enough for most videos
- Using too many tags can confuse the algorithm
- The first tag is the most important, so I always put my main keyword first
