Understanding Your Results

Pay is quoted in different periods, which makes job offers hard to compare. This calculator converts any amount into hourly, daily, weekly, every-two-weeks, twice-a-month, monthly and annual figures using your hours per week and weeks worked per year. All amounts are gross, before taxes.

How to Use the Salary Calculator

  1. Enter your pay amount and choose its period.
  2. Enter hours per week and weeks worked per year.
  3. Enter any unpaid days off.
  4. Optionally enter a raise percentage.
  5. Press Calculate and compare the periods.

Formula

Annual = hourly × hours per week × weeks worked
Hourly = annual ÷ (hours per week × weeks)
Weekly = annual ÷ weeks   Monthly = annual ÷ 12   Semi-monthly = annual ÷ 24
Unpaid days reduce annual pay by (annual ÷ (weeks × 5)) per day

Example Calculation

At $25 an hour, 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, annual pay is $52,000: $4,333 a month, $2,000 every two weeks, $1,000 a week and $200 a day.

What Is a Salary Calculator?

A salary calculator translates pay from one time basis to another so you can compare offers and plan a budget.

How Pay Periods Differ

Weekly pay produces 52 checks a year, biweekly 26, semi-monthly 24 and monthly 12. Annual income is the same, but cash flow timing differs. Biweekly schedules give two months a year with three paychecks.

Comparing Job Offers

Compare total compensation, not just base pay: health premiums, retirement match, paid time off, bonus potential and commuting costs all change the real value. An hourly job with unpaid holidays may pay less than a salaried job with the same headline rate.

Tips

  • Use realistic hours, including unpaid overtime if it is expected.
  • Convert every offer to annual and hourly to compare.
  • Estimate net pay with the take-home pay calculator.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming 52 paid weeks when time off is unpaid.
  • Comparing gross pay across states with different taxes.
  • Ignoring benefits when evaluating an offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert hourly to annual salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks, that is the hourly rate times 2,080.

Is this before or after tax?

Before tax. Use the take-home pay calculator for net pay.

Why is biweekly different from twice a month?

Biweekly is 26 paychecks a year; twice a month is 24. The paychecks are slightly different in size.

How do I account for unpaid time off?

Enter the unpaid days and the calculator reduces annual pay accordingly.

Does this include overtime or benefits?

No. Add them separately when comparing total compensation.
